Fox

NESRA's Shiba foster

Fox, sitting in her normal pose with her injured left hind leg out to the side.

Surgery Date: 6/15/04 ~ UPDATES

Rescue volunteers are faced with difficult situations every day, but none more difficult than realizing they're unable to meet the financial needs of a rescue. Northeast Shiba Rescue volunteers found themselves in that situation when they fostered a female Shiba Inu named Fox.

Fox was 4 yrs old when she entered foster care. Not only was she dealing with huge changes in her young life, but also an uncertain future due to a luxating patella in her left leg that restricted her ability to use the leg in normal every day activities. She was surrendered by her owner to make room in her home for a human baby, and was unable to go to her new home when we discovered her need for surgery.

It was while Fox was in foster care we became aware of her problem. A visit to the vet diagnosed the problem, and a second opinion supported the first diagnosis. Apparently, this had been ongoing for a number of years, and was not something that happened just before she was surrendered to rescue. The NESRA volunteers are committed to making this right for Fox. We established the "Fox Fund" and asked for donations to help defray Fox's medical costs. The public generously responded and Fox underwent surgery on June 15, 2004. If you would like to follow Fox's progress, please click here.

Fox, standing with most of her weight on her good right leg. She walks with a pronounced limp and can not use the leg to go up or down stairs.
